A coastal hike of San Francisco

After a walk through Golden Gate Park – east of the tea gardens more woodland trails than manicured lawns, I reached the windy wild Ocean Beach. After following the Lands End trail, I took a slight detour in land, past the large houses of Sea Cliff, eventually reaching the road to Baker Beach. This hike can take up much of the day – by the time I’d visited Baker Beach I was too exhausted to continue the trail to the Golden Gate entrance so instead caught the free Presidio shuttle bus to Marina Boulevard, just past Crissy Fields.

Whenever I saw crows in San Francisco I thought of that certain Hitchcock film…

The ruins of Sutro Baths: a complex of saltwater, ocean-fed swimming pools which opened in 1896. After closing in 1966, a fire destroyed much of the site.
